End Of The Year FUN

Having FUN Cleaning Desks:

With shaving cream!  Writing our sight words and numbers too.

The desks got soooooo clean!

And it made the classroom smell fresher too.

Making a FUN Keepsake:

Those are our "Nature Prints" behind the crayon candles.Get the full directions by clicking HERE.

A New Use For Our Kindergarten Crayons-  We made candles out of our old kindergarten crayons.

Kids place broken, unwrapped crayons in the jar, place a birthday candle
in the center.  Away from children, spoon paraffin wax into the jars.

I used my Spa Paraffin Hand Treatment kit to melt the wax.
A plastic soup spoon worked great to pour the wax over the crayons.

A FUN Last Day Treat:

Our parent volunteers made these cute dolphins for our graduation treat:

Cut bananas, add two eyes with a Sharpie, and grapes!

Which Came First? The Chicken or the Egg?

In Our Classroom, It Was The Chicks...

... because our eggs didn't hatch, so we had to find some new baby chicks FAST!

We found some that were just 1 day old!

Our Classroom Barn:

I found this old rabbit hutch at a garage sale last summer and decided to clean it up and turn it into a barn for our farm unit.

The chicks love having a private side and a side where they can see what we are doing in our classroom.  

Today, We Sat In A Circle...

... and we let the little chicks walk around inside of our circle.  The children got to watch them drink water and eat chicken feed, run, and even try to fly!

They loved getting to pet the chicks and the chicks loved climbing up on their shoes.  

Now, My Head Is Into Next Year:

Sometimes You Just Have To Seize The Moment...

... And Teach From The Heart

Driving to work today, I decided to bump my lesson plans to tomorrow and teach an impromptu art lesson.  I call it "Nature Prints in Warm Or Cool Colors".

These were as easy as 1, 2, 3.

3 Steps To Beautiful Art:

1.  We started with a quick lesson on how to walk with scissors and then we set out on a nature walk looking for samples of leaves and flowers.  We just finished our plant unit, so it went perfectly with that too!

These leaves had straight veins.

Clipping ivy.

We are so lucky to have so many big trees and lovely bushes at our school.

We even found a cool tree with branches that bowed down and let us trim its leaves.  

2.  We chose either warm or cool colored paints and painted the backs of each plant sample.

3.  Last, we placed, pressed, & printed:  We painted the plant, placed the painted plant on while paper (I cut it to 12" X 12"), and  pressed down with a paper towel to create a print image.  

Paint...

Place ...

Press.

We had so much fun with this art activity.  I mounted the art prints on black construction paper and entered them in our school district's art show.

This also makes a fun summertime project for your summer school class, summer camp, or your kids at home.

We Have 4 Chicks In Room 1

Surprise!

 

"Are you talkin' to me?"

Our little "barn" worked great!

The children were soooooo excited!

The red light keeps them warm and is easy on their eyes.

The children walked in to find 4 baby chicks in our little barn.

They love the warmth of their little barn.  I converted an old rabbit hutch into a red and white barn for our kindergarten farm theme.  

They washed their hands and got to hold one baby chick.
