The The CA Kindergarten Conference transforms the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA into a magical place where Early Childhood Educators come together to learn, laugh, and get inspired!

The conference is held over the Martin Luther King weekend every year which allows educators to have one extra day off after the conference and before returning to their classrooms.

We LOVE ESGI.
Discount code at end of post.

Every year we turn the Hyatt walls into a magical environment based on a theme. This year's theme was BEES and all of our busy bee board and committee members worked so hard to make this the best conference ever!
LeAnna!
Kathleen!
The amazing Art Exhibit!

Our BEE theme was so cute!
                           Before and...          After!

And every year we bring international experts to share their knowledge, brain research, and techniques to this amazing conference and this year we were thrilled to hear from these outstanding Featured Speakers:
Our Featured Speakers!
The Incredible Dan St. Romain

The Keynote with Dr. Kenneth Wesson

The Pre-Conference was a full day of techniques and inspiration with Mr. Greg from Kindergarten Smorgasboard! And the keynote was filled with brain research and so many ahh-hah moments from Dr. Kenneth Wesson.

Mr. Greg was our Pre-Conference Speaker.

The Art Party is always a favorite hands-on experience with teachers where they create projects they can teach to their students.

Teachers making art!

Art techniques + classroom application!

And the Evening Event is the best time to have fun, win prizes, and be showered with lots of FREEBIES!

I was honored to present a hands-on math session "Meeting Rigorous Standards with Kid-Friendly, FUN, & Engaging Strategies." We had so much fun creating math tools that students will love to make, use, and even play with! I was able to give away a FREE YEAR of ESGI to two teachers and I have QR code for YOU for a FREE 60 day trial & $60 off of your first year! This code does not expire, so sign up, give it a try, print off the flashcards for each student, the reports, and parent letter. Day 1 of My 12 Days of December:

Start & End the Month With This Question:

All of these CUTE graphics are from DJ Inkers and...
they are having a huge SALE right now!
CLICK HERE to see their sale.
Click the image above.

I start every unit with an opinion graph. Then, we end the unit with the same graph to see if your opinion changed.

My holiday unit starts with this question and I use these icons to create a class graph. Students add their photo or just their name on the graph. Here are the icons. The sign and the set of icons is only $1.

CLICK HERE TO GRAB THIS SET.

This is also a GREAT way to get students to
write an opinion piece.
They get to explain WHY they chose that character.

At the end of the unit, we also had them
choose again
and most students had changed their mind!

To make this even more fun,
I have a reindeer antler headband,
a huge gingerbread man cut-out
(where they hold it up & look through the hole for the face),
an elf apron & cap,
and a snowman cut-out.

So I was able to take their photo all dressed up and attach it to their writing.

It's a GR8 Day For Science! + Links, FREEBIES, & Discounts!

You asked for it...

Here are the highlights from my science presentation at the California Kindergarten Conference in Northern CA this month.

5 Senses Pre-science:

I introduced each of the 5 senses at the small-group table so each child got to manipulate the realia and learn how to take care of the materials before they became part of the science center.
Their favorite activity was getting to trace their name with white glue and sprinkle it with powdered Jell-O. When it dried, it became a tactile scratch-&-sniff reminder of how to spell their name. (Great to use this with sight words too!)

Matter: The Power of Air

We got to make our snowmen float on air!
for the directions.
We had so much fun making our
snowmen float on air!

We also had fun with these paper helicopters. CLICK HERE
for the template and directions.

We tested different variables: size, weight, even color!
Oh, and the bubble experiment was so much fun!

We explored the properties of water, weather experiments that demonstrate the water cycle, and we learned this song:
(To the tune of "Oh, My Darlin'")
Evaporation,
Condensation,
Precipitation on my mind.
It is just the water cycle
and it happens all the time!

We talked about seasons, plants, and animal life cycles.
